Orange Peach Granita

Happy Tuesday! Today I have a refreshing Orange Peach Granita for you! A granita is an Italian dessert usually made from ice, sweeteners and various flavorings. It is similar to a sorbet expect it is made by hand and is not churned, so the ice crystals are slightly larger. When I was doing my grocery shopping last Saturday, I saw these beautiful white peaches and immediately thought that they will be perfect for granita. I started with a sweet ripe peaches, than I added oranges for a vibrant look, and a touch of lime juice to perk up the flavors, lightly sweetened with agave nectar and flavored with vanilla. Then I added a little bit of walnuts for texture and a dash of nutmeg for a nutty, slightly sweet flavor. Perfect summertime treat! Light, refreshing, and super easy to make!

Orange Peach Granita

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 navel oranges, peeled
  • 3 peaches, pitted
  • 1 tablespoon walnuts
  • Juice 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons agave nectar or to taste
  • Dash nutmeg
  • Coconut sugar to rim the glass (optional)

Direction:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Taste, and add additional sweetener of your choice until slightly oversweet ( it will balance out when it’s frozen).
  2. Transfer the mixture to a sealable shallow container. Freeze for 1-2 hours, then remove from the freezer and stir with a fork to break the ice crystals apart and make a slush.Freeze for 2-3 hours longer, or until frozen through.
  3. To serve, rim the glass with coconut sugar: moisten the rim with a piece of lime, then turn the glass upside down and dip it into a coconut sugar.
  4. Scrap the surface of the granita with the prongs of a fork to make snow, and transfer to serving glasses or cups.
